If I check my account on the MAC (Skype>My Account) it opens a browser window associated with my ancient Skype name. If I go to 'account settings' there, it indicates that my Microsoft account is linked. On Win 10, my Skype name is the Email associated with my Microsoft account.
So I understand that these two accounts are linked, but maybe I don't understand what 'linked' means. I take it to mean there is effectively now one account that can be accessed in two ways - by the old Skype name or the Email associated with My Microsoft account. This all seems more complicated than it needs to be. I looked at this and it requires notifying each contact and asking them to make me a contact again. This is really annoying and weird. I am confused. It seems to me that the contact list is either maintained by Microsoft in the cloud somewhere, in which case you should be able to restore it (since the Win 10 and IOS version are ok); or, it is stored locally on my computer - I have backups over many months and could easily recover it if I knew where the contact list is stored.
